2020-2021 NETG Leadership Team

Faculty Advisor: Jeffrey J. Richards
President: Travis Schmauss
Picture
Prof. Jeffrey J. Richards is an assistant professor in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department. The Richards laboratory seeks to quantify the relationships linking the microscopic structure of multicomponent materials to their macroscopic properties.
Picture
Travis is a 5th year PhD Candidate in the Barnett Group in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. He studies surface modification of solid oxide cell electrodes. Things to do beyond work: Playing tennis, whipping around on my electric scooter, reading literary fiction, contemplating the anthropocene, actively listening to podcasts.

Vice President (Internal): Carrie Schoeneberger
Vice President (External): Matt Sweers
Picture
Carrie is a 3rd year PhD student in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department. Her research is in energy systems modeling and sustainability analysis, where she develop models that evaluate the potential for renewable energy and low carbon technologies in the industrial sector. Things to do beyond work: Cycling, soccer, tennis, movies & TV, reading, painting, coffee.
Picture
Matt is a 3rd year Ph.D. student in Materials Science and Engineering, but work in the Seitz Lab in the ChemE department. His research mainly focuses on stabilizing iridium-based perovskite oxynitrides as catalysts for electrochemical water-splitting. Things to do beyond work: Homebrewing, fixing my prehistoric bike, puzzles.

Secretary: Ariel Leonard
Picture
Ariel is a 5th year graduate student in the Chemistry department. Her research focuses on charge transfer dynamics and thermal properties in emerging photovoltaic materials. Outside of being a grad student, she enjoys hiking, climbing, dancing, and finding new recipes to try.
Treasurer: Connor Carr
Picture
Conner is a 4th year graduate student in Materials Science and Engineering. He studies ionic conductivity at solid-solid interfaces, specifically grain boundaries in solid oxide electrolytes. Outside the lab, He enjoys running, playing piano, cooking, and drinking coffee.

ETG Captain: Elise Goldfine
Picture
Elise is a 4th year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on x-ray based characterization of oxynitride materials for photocatalysis in fuel cells and electrolyzers. Outside the lab, she enjoys doing triathlons, hiking, cooking, and reading.
Advertising and Medias: Dawn Duan
Picture
Dawn is a 3rd year PhD student in Chemistry. Dawn's research focuses on investigating electrochemical properties of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and utilizing MOFs and their derivatives as electrocatalysts. Things to do beyond work: Badminton, squash (the sport, not the food), video games (currently on Factorio, Terraria, The Binding of Isaac, and Stardew Valley), coffee, puzzles, learning Japanese.

Board Members-at-Large
Kazuki Imasato
Picture
Kazuki is a 5th year graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. He studies electrical and thermal transport properties in energy materials. Specifically, thermoelectric materials which can be used for low-grade heat recovery technology. Things to do beyond work: Beer. Drinking 365 kinds of beer is one of my goals in 2020!
Jack Jordan
Picture
Jack is a 3rd year undergraduate student studying Environmental Science and Political Science. His studies focus on environmental policy, specifically when it comes to overcoming the political barriers of renewable energy adoption.

Brendan Badia
Nikodem Pancewicz
Picture
Brendan Badia| Brendan is a 5th year graduate student in Electrical Engineering. His work focuses on two-sided markets in the electrical grid, analyzing the impact of new technologies on the existing structure of power grid. In his spare time Brendan enjoys playing musical instruments (piano, drums), dance, and tennis.
Picture
Nikodem is a third year MS in Law student at Northwestern School of Law focusing on the intersection of law, business, and technology; studying the impact of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and emerging technologies on privacy, intellectual property and other legal issues. He is working in Business Development and Strategy at a multinational engineering firm where he develops the go-to-market and growth strategy, oversees partnerships, and consults on Digital Transformation. Things to do beyond work: Scuba diving, mountain biking, and martial arts.

Dalton Cox
Kavitha (Kavi) Chintam
Picture
Dalton is a 3rd Year PhD in Materials Science and Engineering studying how the complex 3D structure of porous electrodes in fuel cells and batteries affects their performance using tomography. Things to do beyond work: Dalton loves playing music and running/biking
Picture
Kavi is a 2nd year graduate student in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department in the Seitz Lab. She is studying the fundamental mechanisms behind electrochemical CO/CO2 reduction to inform a more sustainable pathway to carbon-based compound production. Things to do beyond work: She is passionate about science policy and being involved in my community. She also enjoy running and being outdoors in general, reading, cross-stitching, cooking, and fostering cats!
